TAP Air Portugal has announced plans for its latest Brazilian route, with flights to the northwestern city of Manaus commencing on 4 November.

The flag carrier will offer thrice weekly (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) flights from Lisbon, operating as a tag-on to its existing route to Belém.

TAP last served Manaus – the capital of Brazil’s Amazonas state and situated near the confluence of the Negro and Amazon rivers – between 2014 and 2016.

There are currently no nonstop flights between Manaus’ Eduardo Gomes International Airport and Europe.

The new comes just weeks after TAP announced plans to launch a new route between Lisbon and the Brazilian coastal city of Florianópolis, with a thrice weekly service starting on 3 September.

TAP to launch Europe’s only nonstop flights to Florianópolis

Lisbon-Manaus will be the carrier’s 13th Brazilian destination, joining routes to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador and Florianópolis.

In total TAP will operate 95 weekly flights to Brazil this summer, with an average of more than 13 flights per day.

Commenting on the news Luís Rodrigues, CEO of TAP, said:

“Brazil is strategic for TAP and the return of flights to Manaus highlights our commitment to invest in the development of our operations in the country.

“We recently launched a new route to Florianópolis and we will end this year with at least 15 routes to Brazil; a record number for the airline.

“Our aim is to bring more tourists to Brazil, not just from Portugal but from all over the world. TAP flies to more than 60 destinations in Europe and Africa, which can be flown by Brazilians via Lisbon and Porto.

“With TAP resuming flights to Manaus, we will continue to be the leading international airline in Brazil.”
