Finnair has launched a summer menu “inspired by Nordic summer flavours”, available until 29 October, 2024.

For those travelling in business class, the Finnish flag carrier offers the choice of three starters (salmon sashimi, shrimp tartlet and summer vegetables) plus three main dishes: slow-cooked beef in a dough crust with mushroom duxelle, root purée, roasted vegetables and red wine sauce; panko-coated rainbow trout, sautéed leek and roasted vegetables with horseradish add mustard; and a third route-specific option.

Premium economy customers, meanwhile, will be served a main meal and a lighter meal or snack, with complimentary hot and cold refreshments and alcoholic beverages (excluding sparkling wine) served throughout the flight.

Those travelling in economy on long-haul flights, meanwhile, are served a hot meal with a complimentary glass of wine (excluding sparkling wine), plus a light meal or snack with a non-alcoholic beverage before landing.

For long-haul flights, customers in business class (and premium economy flights departing from Helsinki) can select their preferred main course in advance via Finnair’s ‘Manage Booking’ page.

The carrier has also updated the items available for purchase on short-haul flights in the economy cabin. Hot dishes include vegetable bolognese pasta, vegetarian korma curry noodles and berry oatmeal, while snacks on offer include cashew nuts, blueberry muffins, and liquorice.

Depending on the route, customers can also pre-order a sandwich or hot meal, with options including grilled chicken fillet with carrot spaghetti, carrots puree and pea pesto, or stewed beef with fried potatoes, onions, green beans and liquorice sauce.

The carrier’s drinks menu has also seen a refresh, with a rosé wine now on offer for the holiday season.

Sami Oksava, Finnair Development Chef, said:

“When planning onboard dining, we take into account route destinations, flight times and schedules, and the typical customer demographic of those flying on particular routes.

“On our long-haul flights from Helsinki to Singapore, Nagoya, Hong Kong and Shanghai, our inflight service concept has been renewed to account for the late departure time of the flight and to benefit our customers.

“On these routes, we first offer a light meal in Business Class and a delicious brunch before the flight lands. Business Class brunch consists of breakfast-style starters and dessert selection, as well as three main courses to choose from. We also offer in Premium Economy and Economy classes brunch style lighter meals on these routes before landing.”
