London’s Imperial Hotel to undergo “once-in-a-generation” refurb

Imperial London Hotels has announced plans for a full refurbishment of its namesake property overlooking Russell Square.

The 357-room Imperial Hotel is one of eight London properties in the group’s portfolio, all of which are located in the Bloomsbury area of the capital.

The others are the Bedford Hotel, Tavistock Hotel, President Hotel, Morton Hotel, Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, Royal National Hotel and City Sleeper at the Royal National.

Described as a “once-in-a-generation” refurbishment, the Imperial Hotel will reopen in 2026 as a four-star deluxe flagship hotel.

Features will include a 10th floor rooftop bar and restaurant with views across London, and interior design which will blend “retro-chic and modern sophistication”.

Works will be undertaken by lead architects Cube Design Ltd, and designers Trevillion Interiors Ltd and Keane Brands, and will include the preservation of the buildings Brutalist exterior and geometric window design.

Commenting on the news Neil Braude, chief operating officer at Imperial London Hotels, said:
