Following a celebration of its 91st anniversary on May 20, Turkish Airlines, the national flag carrier of Türkiye, has created a special project called “Wings of Türkiye” to commemorate the occasion.

The airline began its journey in 1933 with a single aircraft, the Curtiss King Bird D2. Drawing inspiration from this historic aircraft that laid the foundation for its success, the airline has created a sustainable project using aircraft parts accumulated from its fleet over its 91-year history, in memory of the aircraft that played a pivotal role in shaping Turkish civil aviation.

Titled “Wings of Türkiye”, the work was created in collaboration with sculptor Selçuk Yılmaz. Handcrafted from metal aircraft parts in a piece that is said to bridge the past with the future, the reconstructed aircraft weighs approximately four tonnes with a wingspan of nine metres, a length of six metres, and a height of 2.4 metres.

The story of the Wings of Türkiye Project and its creation has been captured in a film, which metaphorically portrays Turkish Airlines’ journey from its humble beginnings to its current global stature.
