Austrian Airlines has outlined plans to increase frequencies and extend summer seasonal services into the winter season.

Two Boeing 787 aircraft were recently transferred to the carrier from Bamboo Airways, These and additional Dreamliner aircraft arriving from sister carrier Lufthansa will allow Austrian to increase frequencies between Vienna and Bangkok to 13 flights per week this winter, as well as increasing its routes to New York, Montreal and the Maldives to five flights per week.

The airline is set launch its new service to Boston on 1 July – a route which had originally been scheduled to commence in 2020 – and this route will now also be extended into the winter season.

In addition Austrian will launch a new route from Vienna to Ivalo in Finnish Lapland this winter, operating weekly on Saturdays between January and March 2025.

Commenting on the news CCO Michael Trestl, said:

“Our aim is to continuously expand our route network in order to be able to offer our guests a broad portfolio of destinations. We have achieved this successfully in the winter flight schedule with the addition of Ivalo and the continuation of the new summer destinations in winter.

“On long-haul routes, it was important for us to initially serve Boston in the winter and to offer more flights to destinations popular among our guests. This approach aims to return to pre-crisis levels in intercontinental services and provide attractive connections worldwide.”
