China Southern Airlines will reconnect Western Australia with mainland China with the return of its service to Guangzhou from 28 November 2024.
The flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, arriving into Perth at 2210 and departing at 2355 on the airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The China Southern Airlines 787-9s seat 28 passengers in lie-flat business class across a 1-2-1 configuration, as well as 28 in 2-3-2 premium economy, and 220 in 3-3-3 economy class.
Perth airport’s chief commercial and aviation officer, Kate Holsgrove, said that this announcement will provide a significant boost for Western Australia’s tourism industry.
“The Chinese visitor market is so valuable for tourism, business, education, and exports. China already represents Western Australia’s fourth biggest market with 54,000 visitors in 2023 injecting $230 million into the economy and we know that non-stop services will have a positive impact to visitation numbers.
“The service will operate three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and will deliver 86,000 seats and 5,000 tonnes of cargo capacity into the Perth market,” Holsgrove said.
China Southern Airlines first launched service between its Guangzhou hub and Perth in November 2011, its regional general manager for Australia and New Zealand, Jason Sun, said.
Earlier this month, South African Airways also resumed its service to Perth, flying its A340-300 aircraft nonstop between Johannesburg and Western Australia.
