ITA Airways has launched its first nonstop route to Canada, with the inauguration of flights between Rome Fiumicino and Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The service is initially operating six-times-weekly, increasing to daily between June and September and then falling back to five flights per week in October.

Flights are being served by ITA’s A330-900 aircraft, which feature 30 fully flat seats in business class, 24 in premium economy and 237 in economy.

The airline recently took delivery of four Airbus aircraft in one week, including an A330-900 owned by ITA Airways, as well as leased A321neo, A320neo and A220-100 aircraft.

The new service follows the launch of flights to Chicago last month, and brings the carrier’s US and Canadian network to eight destinations.

This summer ITA will also launch flights from Rome to Riyadh, Accra, Dakar, Kuwait City and Jeddah, bringing its network to 57 destinations.

The carrier will join Air Canada and Air Transat (seasonal) on the Rome-Toronto route.

Commenting on the news Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer ITA Airways and CEO of Volare, said:

“The launch of ITA Airways’ flights between Canada and Italy comes in response to the significant demand for travel between the two nations, driven in part by the substantial Italian Canadian population.

“With our direct flight, we plan to transport to up to two million of Italian Canadian passengers who travel between Italy and Canada annually. Toronto, in particular, serves as a pivotal gateway for our airline, facilitating not only point-to-point travel but also connections to various destinations within both countries, thereby catering to both leisure and business travellers.

“This underscores ITA Airways’ commitment to delivering optimal travel solutions to our Clients. The new route has already garnered impressive results in terms of bookings, with over 30,000 passengers booked between May and September.”
