China Southern Airlines plans to launch the longest nonstop route from China with a new twice-weekly Shenzhen-Mexico City service.

The outbound flight from Shenzhen will be nonstop, while the inbound requires a refueling stop in Tijuana owing to the weaker aircraft operating performance from high-altitude Mexico City airport.

The flight time between Shenzhen and Mexico City will be approximately 16 hours, covering a distance of just under 8,800 miles.

China Southern Airlines plans to launch this new service on 11 May, operating every Tuesday and Saturday from Shenzhen, and returning from Mexico City each Wednesday and Sunday.

The airline has rostered one of its latest-technology Airbus A350-900 aircraft on the route, with 28 1-2-1 configured business class seats and 307 3-3-3 economy class seats.

In other China Southern Airlines updates, the airline recently added a weekly Guangzhou-Shenyang-Frankfurt, also with its A350-900.

This will complement its twice-weekly nonstop Guangzhou-Frankfurt A350 service.

Furthermore, from late June, China Southern Airlines will launch a four-times weekly service from Guangzhou to Budapest, deploying its 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft to the Hungarian capital.

China Southern currently operates 20 A350-900s alongside its widebody A330 and Boeing 777 and 787 long-haul fleets.
