Travel to, from and within Brussels remains disrupted following Tuesday’s terrorist attacks which killed more than 30 people.
Eurostar says it is running a normal service on Wednesday March 23, but asks that “all passengers travelling allow one hour to check in due to enhanced security checks at the stations”.
The high-speed rail operator adds that “If you do not wish to travel to or from Brussels on March 23 then you are able to exchange your booking for free within 60 days or claim a refund”.
Brussels airport remains closed – a post on its Twitter page at around 1100 advises:
“There will be no passenger flights into and out of #brusselsairport tomorrow Thursday 24 March. Contact your airline for flight information."
British Airways' website currently advises:
“If you have a confirmed booking for travel to/from Brussels on Wednesday 23 March then you can rebook your flight for a later date or claim a full refund.
“If you have a confirmed booking for travel to/from Brussels between Thursday 24 March and Tuesday 29 March (inclusive) then you can rebook your flight for a later date.”
Low-cost carrier Easyjet says that “Any passengers who were planning to travel to or from Brussels up to and including next Monday (28/03/16), and now either cannot or do not want to travel, can have a full refund or transfer to another destination on the Easyjet network. Our contact centre is operating extended hours to deal with these queries.”
Brussels Metro network is understood to have partially reopened, with added security measures in place.
Meanwhile SNCB, Belgium’s national rail system, says that several stations will remain closed today, namely Brussel-Nationaal-Luchthaven, Bruxelles-Congrès, Bruxelles-Schuman, Bruxelles-Chapelle, Delta and Mérode.
The FCO website advises that "The Belgian threat level is Level 4 – a serious and imminent threat. You should remain alert and vigilant, stay away from crowded places, and follow the instructions of the Belgian authorities."
Terrorists targetted Brussels' airport and metro system, with two bombs exploding in the departures hall at Brussels airport, and a further explosion at the city's Maelbeek metro station.
